Jill McEvoy is a Certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. She spent years smoking cigarettes, eating fast foods, processed foods, and every man-made food imaginable. This lifestyle was accompanied by pretty severe IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), PMS (Pre-Menstrual Syndrome), and acne. While getting her BS in Criminal Justice, she learned about the paleo diet and discovered the power of food on our health firsthand. After receiving her Bachelor of Science, she realized her true passion was for nutrition, wellness, and fitness and returned to school to become a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. Jill hopes to inspire others to improve their lives with nutrition and lifestyle changes & discover how great they can feel.

Grain-Free Lasagna (not strict paleo)

Lasagna was one of my all-time favorites growing up- and it’s still one of my favorites. Since going paleo, lasagna is something I very, veryyyy rarely eat. I don’t do well at all when I eat wheat, but I always loved pasta. When I discovered Cappello’s it was a game-changer. Now I can enjoy grain-free pasta?? What?! I held off on trying Cappello’s for a long time (despite all the good reviews) because they didn’t sell it at stores…

Dining Out Guide

The best way to ensure you are eating the highest quality food is to make everything yourself, of course. I believe life is all about balance and enjoying everything life has to offer, so, for me, that includes dining out. I love going out to eat at restaurants and going to people’s BBQs and other social events that include food. While I do cook my own food most of the time, I also know how to make good choices when…

Benefits of Grass-Fed Butter

Have you spent years fearing that if you ate butter you would get heart disease or gain weight? Well, guess what- it’s never actually been scientifically proven that saturated fat alone causes heart disease. In every study that was done, saturated fat was lumped together with trans fats (which do actually cause heart disease). This error in not separating saturated and trans fats has lead to one of the most dangerous diet trends: the low-fat/fat-free diet craze. The low-fat era…

Saturated Fat is Actually a Health Food

Are you afraid that if you eat fat you’ll gain weight? Have you been told that eating fat, mainly saturated fat, will cause heart disease? Fat has been demonized in our society since the ‘70s, and the low-fat diet craze may be one of the most harmful of diet trends. Contrary to popular belief, we do need a fair amount of fat in our diets in order to achieve optimal health. The key is to eat the right types of…

Cedar Plank Salmon

Grilling season is finally here! That makes me a happy girl. Not just because of BBQing (which is, of course, awesome), but because I absolutely despise the cold weather. Winter really gets me down- I feel depressed, unmotivated, tired, lazy, etc. As soon as I’m able to, I plan on moving to San Diego, California- or possibly some other warm-weather state that has access to healthy food 😉 For now, I am going to soak up every ounce of sun/warm…

Agave Nectar is NOT a Health Food!

The world of food labels can be a very confusing place if you don’t know exactly what to look out for. In this post, I am going to discuss the controversial agave nectar. Agave nectar is found in many organic and “health food” products- but in reality it is just as harmful as high fructose corn syrup. Some people believe it is a good alternative to sugar or high fructose corn syrup because it comes from the agave plant. Agave in…

The Truth About Stomach Acid

Have you ever suffered from heartburn, indigestion, acid reflux, GERD, IBS, and/or other digestive issues? Were you told that your body was making too much acid and to take antacids, such as Tums? How about acid blockers such as Prilosec? What if I told you the real problem was too little stomach acid, rather than too much? Yup that’s right, too little. So those antacids and acid-blockers are really doing more harm then good. They bring temporary relief but can…

Paleo Fettuccine Alfredo with Chicken

I haven’t ate fettuccine alfredo in years (since before going paleo in February 2012). Now that I’ve let myself indulge in the wonderfulness that is Cappello’s (cappellosglutenfree.com), I’ve started eating some of my childhood favorites again. Cappello’s products are unbelievable. They’re gluten-free, grain-free and out-of-this-world delicious. I got their multipack that comes with fettuccine, lasagna sheets, & gnocchi. I also got their cookie dough (which is paleo & vegan-friendly). All of their products are truly outstanding. I do have to…

Dairy-Free Kefir Parfaits

So, I’ve been wanting to experiment with fermented foods for a long time. I eat fermented foods. I’ve just never made my own, until now. I bought a book on fermenting foods about two years ago and have been so distracted, so I never tried. Someone I know had more kefir grains than he was able to keep up with and offered some to me. I took that as a sign it was time to finally try fermenting foods.…
