Magnesium for Menstrual Cramps

I recently did a live Periscope video on how I ease my menstrual cramps using magnesium. Check it out below:

Isn’t Periscope super cool?! Wanna get in on the live conversation?? Download the Periscope app and come follow me @jillmacntc

Recap of what was discussed in the video:

  • Track your period: I do this using an app on my smartphone called… Period Tracker!
  • Supplementing with magnesium: Supplement with magnesium every night before bed, starting from the day you begin ovulating until the day your period begins. If you’re unsure of when you ovulate, the Period Tracker app let’s you know! (If you didn’t watch the Periscope video, I recommend watching it since I show you the app)
  • Reminders: I use the calendar on the Period Tracker app to determine when I’m ovulating and when my period is predicted to begin. Using those dates, I put reminders in my phone to take magnesium about a half hour before bed on those days, otherwise it’s highly likely that I’ll forget. If you’re forgetful with supplements too, I highly recommend using a reminder app on your phone – you’ll thank me later 😉
  • Cut out sugar: It takes 54 molecules of magnesium to process just 1 molecule of sugar and sugar causes inflammation – leading to cramping. So, if you want to have a pain-free period, without the use of pain relievers, it is a must that you cut back on sugar. As a major sweet tooth myself, I get how hard this one is, so I use a supplement to help keep my blood sugar under control & curb cravings…
  • Bio-Glycozyme Forte: This is a multivitamin that contains glandulars. It is designed to balance your blood sugar & is helpful for curbing sugar cravings between meals. I’ve noticed many people, including myself, become nauseous if they take this supplement on an empty stomach, so I recommend taking it with your meals. It’s sold through professionals, like myself, so shoot me an email if you’d like to place an order ([email protected])
  • Topical Magnesium & Heating Pad: When I haven’t been keeping up too well with my diet & magnesium intake pre-menstrual, I use topical magnesium and a heating pad to ease cramps. I rub the magnesium right onto where I am in pain. I use Nature Creation heating pad (as well as a separate one that plugs in) that is filled with cinnamon, chamomile, lemongrass, peppermint, rosemary, spearmint, valerian root, white willow, yarrow, yellow dock root, and natural grains. The scents are very calming and help you to relax while easing the pain.
  • Fish oil & Evening Primrose oil: Fish oil and evening primrose oil are polyunsaturated fatty acids. These are anti-inflammatory and help ease menstrual cramps (when included as a regular part of your diet). Fish oil is rich in omega 3 and evening primrose oil is rich in omega 6.
