Hormone Balancing Smoothie

Coffee: My Favorite Ways

If you ever took a look at my Instagram account, it’s pretty clear that I have a strong love affair going with coffee. I love coffee so many ways, for so many reasons. I gave up coffee twice in my life, and both times I actually felt depressed and sad. I love coffee for giving me energy, making me happy, helping me go to the bathroom, and because it is so damn delicious.

During the summer, I am strictly an iced coffee or cold brew over ice girl.

Most summer days I drink a Chameleon Cold Brew blend:

10 oz Chameleon Cold Brew Coffee Concentrate (vanilla or black)
Pour in some So Delicious Culinary Coconut Milk Light
Pour in some Silk Almond Milk Vanilla Creamer
2 scoops Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides
Splash of MCT oil

I blend all that together in a blender and then pour over ice and enjoy with a straw!

If I get an iced coffee out at a coffee shop, I’ll either get a black iced coffee with a flavor (usually vanilla) or if they have coconut or almond milk I will put that in as well. However, I don’t really care for the taste of almond milk in coffee; I prefer coconut milk.

If I go to Starbucks, I get either an Iced Latte with coconut milk and a flavor, or an Iced Macchiato with coconut milk and a flavor. *(Note that coffee crops are one of most heavily sprayed with pesticides, so it’s best to always strive for organic whenever possible)

When fall rolls around, I go all out with pumpkin spice everything, and start drinking hot coffee again.

Most mornings in the fall I make a coffee blend like this:

10 oz brewed coffee
Pour in some So Delicious Culinary Coconut Milk Light
Pour in some Silk Vanilla Almond Milk Creamer
2 scoops of Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides
A few shakes of Pumpkin Pie Spice

I add all ingredients to a blender for 30 seconds.

I also have this Pumpkin Spice Coffee recipe that I will treat myself to sometimes in the fall. And I do like to go to Starbucks once or twice a season and get my Pumpkin Spice Latte with coconut milk. And sometimes I’ll grab just a plain coconut milk hot latte from Starbucks or other coffee shops that offer coconut milk.

After pumpkin season, I make myself a Gingerbread Coffee during the month of December.

And then for the rest of the winter, until it becomes iced coffee season again, I’ll usually have a hot vanilla coffee and/or latte with coconut milk. I tend to drink a lot more coffee during the winter than I do in the summer. I believe it is because the cold weather leaves me depressed and drained of energy. Coffee is what gets me through those days… I really need to move to a warm weather state.

So there you have it. I love me my coffee and I love it many different ways. It’s a ritual, a routine, a tradition, and a way of life for me.

Jill’s Detox Juice Recipe

Who needs coffee when you can make this detox juice?! Scratch that. Who needs a second coffee when you can make this detox juice?! Because let’s be real, I’m not giving up my coffee – ever. But this detox juice really is the perfect afternoon pick-me-up. It’s energizing as well as detoxifying.

Gingerbread Coffee

One of my favorite things about the holiday season is the seasonal coffee flavors. Back in the day I lived for going to Starbucks and getting either a Gingerbread Latte or an Eggnog Latte (never a Peppermint Mocha because I despise mint chocolate). Now that I’m more conscious about what I put into my body, I make my own versions of these delicious coffee treats! Gingerbread Latte’s were my usual go-to, and this year I finally made my own version 😀 I included collagen peptides in mine, but this is optional. If you want to include it in yours, I use this one from Vital Proteins.

To make my Eggnog Coffee, I use So Delicious Coconut Milk Nog so that it’s dairy-free. While I normally don’t encourage drinking coconut milk from the carton (canned coconut milk doesn’t have all the added fillers that the carton has), this works fine when you want a Christmas treat. You can also use a grass-fed, dairy-based, real eggnog, such as Organic Valley, if you tolerate dairy well. I don’t have an actual recipe for this, I just pour it into my coffee & add 2 scoops of collagen 🙂

Toasted Almond “Iced Coffee”

Dandy Blend is an instant “coffee alternative” made from dandelions. It tastes similar to coffee, but it’s caffeine-free. Dandelions are great for the liver and detoxifying the body. I like to drink Dandy Blend when I’m craving coffee later in the day. I normally only drink two cups of coffee in the morning, so I’ll have this toasted almond flavored drink at night for a treat.

It’s also a great alternative to people who love coffee but can’t drink it.

“Peanut Butter” Protein Shake (peanut-free)

Do you suffer from peanut allergies? Let sunbutter come to your rescue! Sunbutter doesn’t taste exactly like peanut butter, but it’s a really great substitute. Peanut butter shakes are so creamy and delicious, which inspired me to make this one made with sunbutter. I have an obsession with the TV show Friends- like serious obsession. It’s my favorite show & my therapy when I’m feeling bad. You know like when you’re having one of those “isn’t that just kick you in the crotch, spit on your neck fantastic” kinda days. So naturally, my 3 (yes, 3!) Central Perk mugs are my favorites. This protein shake is super delicious, thick, & creamy. If you do fine with peanuts, you can go ahead and replace the sunbutter with peanut butter if you prefer.

Pumpkin Spice Coffee

Before I became paleo I was obsessed with Pumpkin Lattes from Dunkin Donuts & Pumpkin Spice Lattes from Starbucks. I always looked forward to fall and enjoying the specialty coffees. Now that I know those lattes are full of junk, I make my own. I personally don’t put the maple syrup in because I enjoy it fine without the sweetener. This coffee is my favorite part of the morning!

Ingredients:

2 cups brewed black organic coffee
2 scoops Vital Proteins collagen
1 tbsp coconut oil
1-2 tsp grass-fed brown butter (or regular grass-fed butter or ghee)
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1 tsp maple syrup (optional)

Procedure:

1. Put coconut oil, brown butter, and collagen in blender
2. Pour coffee into blender
3. Pour in vanilla extract, maple syrup (if using), & pumpkin pie spice
