Jill

Jill McEvoy is a Certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. She spent years smoking cigarettes, eating fast foods, processed foods, and every man-made food imaginable. This lifestyle was accompanied by pretty severe IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), PMS (Pre-Menstrual Syndrome), and acne. While getting her BS in Criminal Justice, she learned about the paleo diet and discovered the power of food on our health firsthand. After receiving her Bachelor of Science, she realized her true passion was for nutrition, wellness, and fitness and returned to school to become a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner. Jill hopes to inspire others to improve their lives with nutrition and lifestyle changes & discover how great they can feel.

The Salad Dressing Formula

It’s no secret that eating salad is great for our health. That is, of course, depending on what dressing is on it. Salad doesn’t have to be boring – use different oils, acids, and spices for a new flavor explosion with every salad! You can easily make any salad dressing by mixing one part acid + two or three (depending on how tart you like it) parts oil + any spices you like. Acids: lemon juice, lime juice, citrus, apple…

Thanksgiving is just around the corner! If you wanna keep it paleo this year, include my paleo pumpkin pie in your dessert line-up! I use Otto’s cassava flour to make the crust. It’s my new favorite baking flour. It subs 1:1 for wheat flour and has a great texture for baked goods. You have to order it online – but it’s free shipping! You know what really irks me? When I see Christmas stuff out before Thanksgiving – and people…

Paleo Misconceptions

I’ve noticed recently (actually I noticed this a while ago, but recently realized I should write about it) that there are some paleo misconceptions in the mainstream, by critics, and by friends. So I figured I’d set the record straight. Listen, paleo is not some crazy diet. It’s not as hard as people think it is. And when I see articles online criticizing paleo for reasons that aren’t even accurate – well, I get annoyed. Paleo is just eating real…

Soft & Chewy Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

These pumpkin chocolate chip cookies are soft & chewy. They’re also grain and nut free. I originally created this recipe to make pancakes, but that was a major fail. As I mixed everything together, instead of turning out like pancake batter, I had a thick dough. Sooo, I decided to make cookies and add chocolate chips. They’re very lightly sweetened and make a great fall dessert. Once it hits September, I’m all about pumpkin everything. I’m your stereotypical white girl…

But That’s Not Paleo…

Have you encountered the “paleo police” since going paleo? I definitely have. You know, the people who say, “But that’s not paleo!” if they see you consume something that’s not “paleo perfect” or they say, “You’re allowed to eat that?” Yes, I’m an adult. I’m allowed to eat whatever I want. I guess that second question is just someone wanting to understand paleo, so that’s okay. But guess what? Paleo is not about perfectionism. It’s not meant to make you stress…

As a decade-long IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) sufferer myself, I know how miserable it is. These symptoms can range from mildly uncomfortable to downright debilitating. Pumpkin Butter Recipe

Fall is in the air! I get so excited when fall rolls around because that means it’s time for PUMPKIN EVERYTHING! I love all the fall treats and apple cider, apple picking, pumpkin picking, fall fashion and just about everything fall has to offer. The only downside is that it’s followed by winter- which I hate. This pumpkin butter recipe was inspired by the pumpkin butter that was served with the bread at a restaurant I ate at when I…
